✨ A Power of Your Own Understanding
At The Phoenix Within, we believe recovery can begin with a simple willingness: the willingness to consider that a Power greater than yourself may offer strength beyond addiction, fear, ego, and self-will.
You do not need perfect faith or someone else's definition of God. Your understanding can be entirely your own.
— Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th ed., “Bill's Story,” p. 12
For one woman, that Power may be God or Spirit. For another, it may first be experienced through community, nature, love, truth, spiritual principles, or the collective wisdom of women in recovery.
🔥 Willingness Is Enough
You may have questions. You may be uncertain about spiritual language. You may have learned to survive by depending only on yourself.
Recovery does not require instant certainty. It begins with openness.
— Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th ed., “We Agnostics,” p. 47
🤝 You Don't Have to Do This Alone
The Big Book identifies the heart of the struggle:
— Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th ed., “We Agnostics,” p. 45
Accepting a Power greater than yourself does not mean surrendering your intelligence, independence, choices, or voice. It means releasing the belief that you must control everything or recover entirely on your own.
I am willing to believe recovery is possible.
I am willing to follow guidance greater than fear.
I am willing to discover a Higher Power of my own understanding.
I am willing to rise."
🔥 Begin With What You Can Believe
You do not have to understand your Higher Power today. You only need enough willingness to begin.
You do not need someone else's definition.
You only need the willingness to discover your own.
Begin Your Journey
You do not have to have all the answers before you begin. Come as you are, bring your questions, and allow your understanding to grow alongside your recovery.
